I hope you are all enjoying the last month of summer—it seems to fly by every year! I remember when I lived in New York, and every September I would get a pit in my stomach because it signified the start of a busy time with a cold winter around the corner. Moving to Los Angeles helped me solve the dreaded winters of the East Coast, but my work ethic remained the same.
Thinking back, I wish that I had taken more time off to rest and rejuvenate. At the time, I did not realize the importance of this type of self-care for my overall mental wellness. When you run your own business, it’s 24/7/365. I always feel the need to be productive and do something for my business every single day (even while on vacation).
This year, I decided to take a week off starting today! I figured it’s about time to recharge and break this pattern. There have been many times I felt overwhelmed over the years but believed that I had to power through and do the work. The longer I live, the more I learn, and I realize how important it is to take a mental health break to keep your mind, body, mood, and overall well-being in check!
This past year and a half has been tough on just about everyone. Emotions have been high, everyone feels vulnerable, and we are all trying to make sense of some very surreal experiences.
I learned so much about my family and myself during the Covid lockdown. We had the opportunity to spend some incredible quality time together and I finally stopped running around so much. I had time to focus and grow my business.—the whole family pitched in between Rachel’s creative direction, Alex’s video skills, and of course, my beloved Instagram hubby’s photography skills!
