Why I Became a Beautycounter Consultant + Shop My Favorite Products

July 30, 2020 Melissa Meyers
IMG_8496.PNG

The beginning of my own clean beauty journey began in 2013 after I moved to LA and started experiencing severe allergies that left me in the hospital. Soon after, at lunch with a friend in a local Brentwood cafe, I was introduced to Gregg Renfrew shortly before she launched Beautycounter.

Since then, I started seeing an integrative doctor and have made an effort to eat clean and use mostly nontoxic products to improve my overall health and wellness. I’m very particular about the types of food I eat and what I put inside my body, so why wouldn’t I be as picky about what I put on my skin? After all, it is our largest organ!

Beautycounter started the clean beauty standard in 2013 by publishing its “Never List” of 1500 toxic ingredients that should be removed from beauty products, setting the highest bar in the industry. That list has now grown to 1800 and counting. I was so intrigued by their concept and the whole clean beauty revolution - I even wrote a blog post about it back in 2014.

The products I've tried from Beautycounter have been so impressive (you know I test so many!), and the integrity of the brand resonates with me on many levels, so I recently decided to become one of their consultants. I figured if I am buying and loving these products, why wouldn’t I just become an ambassador for the brand? Beautycounter continues to launch new products that I'm wowed by, and they also offer women the opportunity to work as consultants from home and educate others about the importance of clean beauty.

Introducing Better Not Younger, Best Haircare Products for Women Over 40

July 15, 2020 Melissa Meyers
BetterNotYoungerMelissaMeyers

Over the past several years, I’ve noticed lots of changes in my hair, especially in the texture and thickness. Yep, hair ages just like our skin does! I recently mentioned in one of my Instagram stories that I was road-testing a new haircare line called Better Not Younger. I was initially interested because I had heard it’s the first brand to address the issues of aging hair that women 40+ start to experience. I’ve been using their hair care line since the end of May, and thought now would be the perfect time to share a few more details about the brand overall and why I am a fan.

Black Businesses to Support + Anti-Racist Resources

Over the past week, I have found myself trying to digest everything that has transpired regarding racism and our society today. It’s crazy to think that it takes people in all fifty states protesting and rioting for so many Americans to finally wake up to such poignant issues that have been going on for over four hundred years. Confronting racism and inequality comes with discomfort for many; however, without working through these uncomfortable feelings, we can never create real long-term change.

You may have noticed that my social channels have been somewhat muted as I’ve been focused on educating myself and sharing anti-racist information and resources with all of you. I’ve also spent quite a bit of time this week reflecting and discussing all of this with my children (both young adults), my friends, and other family members.

I believe we have the power as a community to take action and help drive long-lasting change so I created “The Glow Girl Hot List” of black-owned businesses in fashion, beauty, and wellness that I admire and support. I have also included a few important anti-racism charities to donate to, along with some great articles to read so we can all become better educated.

I am looking forward to sharing my curated list with you; it is definitely one you will want to bookmark. I have personally learned so much from all the incredible content being provided by many influential voices and fellow creators. I will be growing this list over time and making a conscious effort to expand my editorial and social media platforms to include more black-owned products and brands.
