It’s no secret that this year everyone is loving stylish basics and wearing them on repeat. My daughter Rachel and I were recently asked by Who What Wear to share the easy and effortless pieces that California girls like us are wearing to stay comfortable and fashionable. In our latest mom and me feature, “We Live in California and Think These 8 Easy Staples Complete a Wardrobe,” we share the basics that we wear on heavy rotation. Read on to see how we style these staples to stay chic and stylish during a southern California winter.

1. Faux Leather Pants
We love our leather basics, and we love helping the environment too, so when we found these fab faux leather pants, we each had to buy a pair!
2. Matching Sets
Comfort and laid-back sophistication are the secrets to keeping it stylish the California girl way. Matching sets make it so easy to get dressed, and we are living in ours from day till night.
3. Graphic T-Shirt
We like to keep our wardrobe stocked with graphic t’s to show off our playful side.
4. Vintage-Style Denim
You can never have too many pairs of denim. A tried and true everyday basic, we like ours slightly distressed for a vintage California look.
5. Long Skirt
Wearing a long, solid skirt paired with a graphic T or feminine blouse with a sneaker or mule is a classic LA look we love to rock.
6. Wide-Leg Pants
One of the most flattering pant styles, these give the illusion of a longer leg which is helpful since we are both petite. We love this look worn in basic black or winter white—the retro vibe has us feeling very Charlie’s Angels, circa 1970s, California.
7. White Boots
Even with our mild winters, boots still play a big part in our cool-weather fashion. A white boot keeps things fresh, unexpected, and very California.
8. Sneakers
9. Fashionable Face Masks
The trending cloth face covering has officially reached basics status to help keep us safe and stylish. We love to wear ours with fashion chains that double as necklaces.
Even if you don’t live in sunny California, I hope you all got some good fashion inspo to incorporate into your wardrobe this winter. What are some of your favorite basics this year? I’d love to hear from you, so please share in the comments below!
