And for those who are wondering, what is a Glow Girl?
A Glow Girl is a woman who feels good in her own skin. She practices kindness, gratitude, and self-love. She embraces new trends that work for her and has a passion for style, health, travel, and wellbeing. YOU…are a Glow Girl!
I would like to continue engaging with you on a more personal level so I am sharing some things you may not know about me. I hope you can share something about yourself as well in the comments below. Ok… scroll down to read the list.
10 Things You Don’t Know About Me:
1. I have reinvented myself three times in the digital marketing world. My first business was more of a referral business called AskMelissa, followed by an online lifestyle magazine, PageDaily. Currently, I am the founder, content creator, and lifestyle Influencer for The Glow Girl. It took 15 years working in digital media to reach my goals. Success doesn’t always happen overnight. Lots of blood, sweat and tears over the years…I can assure you!
2. I’ve had a life-long fear of public speaking and overcame it by taking various acting, public speaking, improv, and toastmasters classes.
3. As a child and teen I was a ballerina, equestrian, and classical pianist. I also shared an Xr 75 dirt bike with my brother, and we made a track in my parents’ backyard much to their chagrin.
4. I lived in New York until I was 47 years old and then packed it all up to create a new life on the West Coast with my husband, two children and dog.
5. In high school, I was asked by my chorus teacher to perform many of the solos, but I refused to do it because of stage fright! I also won several art awards for drawing, painting and sculpture.
6. While living in NYC, I had a partnership with WNBC as a lifestyle expert doing a segment each month for the Weekend Today Show in NY. This also forced me to overcome my fear of public speaking. Yes, it can be done!
7. I studied at Syracuse University and majored in Marketing and Communications. During my college years, I lived in London for a semester and traveled throughout Europe extensively.
8. I always wanted to be a journalist or work in fashion or beauty. Discouraged to do so by my parents, I worked at an Investment Bank (Bear Stearns) in the Marketing Department for 10 years right out of college. Here, I learned the most about business, strategy and people.
9. I’m a lover of the outdoors, nature, sunsets, and most animals…I always wanted to be a vet when I was growing up.
10. I volunteered in the Israeli army for three weeks, and on a separate trip did a rappelling and mountain climbing program there. I love adventure!
Over the next week, I am going to be taking some much needed time off to rest and recharge. I’m also going to take this time to reflect on this year, the past years, and the lessons I’ve learned both personally and professionally. There are always silver linings no matter what deck of cards we are dealt. This year, I’ve used the extra time at home to focus on what’s truly important. This has allowed me to nurture and grow my business as well as my relationships with my family.
The pandemic has put so much pressure on all of us, and many will not be with their families over the holidays. Whatever your situation, I hope you try to make the best of it and remember that “this too shall pass.”
