Anxiety is something I’ve struggled with for many years which only worsened after the passing of my mother and of course menopause due to all the hormonal changes. The state of the world now for me as a Jew also adds a lot of worry and stress to everyday living. I tap into many holistic ways that help me handle my anxiety in addition to a small daily dose of Zoloft. :)
And, since this month is Mental Health Awareness Month, I thought it would be the perfect time to share many of my best coping mechanisms. Anxiety can manifest in various forms and can even lead to depression if not addressed. I strongly believe that incorporating simple practices into your routine can help you manage stress so you feel less worried and more in the moment.

Below are five things you can do to help reduce anxiety and improve overall mental health:
1.) Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga can help ground you in the present moment. This practice fosters awareness of your thoughts and feelings without judgment, allowing you to respond calmly.
I tend to box breathe daily every morning and night. Deep breath for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, breath out for 4 counts, and hold for 4 counts. Repeat as needed!
2.) Regular Exercise
Engaging in physical activity releases endorphins, the body's natural stress relievers. Shoot for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. Activities like walking, pickle ball, or dancing can be enjoyable and beneficial for reducing anxiety.
I enjoy hiking and get my 10K steps in daily any way I can…even if it means walking around my living room!
3.) Take Certain Supplements & Adaptogens
Some of my favorites include:
- Thorne offers a variety of quality, clean supplements like Theanine, PharmaGaba, and 5HTP that all promote a calm state of mind and can be helpful for anxiety/depression.
- Micropause Girls Gone Mild gummies are made with Ashwagandha and are great for regulating hormone levels, reducing stress, and improving mood.
- Alice Chocolates are the best in nootropic and adaptogen mushroom chocolates. They are delicious and make three formulas - Brainstorm, Nightcap, and Happy Ending!
- Juna Nightcap sleep gummies are sugar-free and formulated with functional botanicals to help you fall asleep, and stay asleep. I find them to be very helpful and love the taste too.
- Schedule 35 (psilocybin) mushrooms are great if you want to try microdosing. They offer a selection of teas, pills, and chocolates. I like the chocolates and microdose four days on and three days off by taking half a square of chocolate. I find them extremely helpful…magic mushrooms create new pathways in the brain that help with mood, focus and so many other things. *Note: I am recommending what works well for me. I think it’s a good idea to check in with a medical professional or specialist before taking new supplements, adaptogens or magic mushrooms.
4.) Establish A Routine
Creating a daily routine can provide structure and stability, which can be particularly beneficial for managing anxiety. Include regular sleep patterns, balanced meals, work or study time, relaxation breaks, and social interactions in your schedule.
I like to take baths regularly with CBD salts from Vertley or magnesium salts from Saint Jane…both are extremely helpful to unwind at the end of a busy day!
5.) Connect with supportive people
Social support plays a vital role in mental health. Stay connected with friends, family, or support groups that provide understanding and encouragement. Sharing your thoughts and feelings can alleviate stress and foster a sense of belonging.
I love to connect with friends over a hike, walk, or workout. Having an accountability partner and getting your fitness in is also nice.
Everyone's journey with anxiety is unique, and it's okay to seek professional help if needed. Prioritize self-care, be kind to yourself, and embrace these small steps toward a calmer, more balanced life.
