As someone who’s passionate about longevity and living vibrantly at every age, I’m always exploring holistic treatments that are both rooted in science and easy to incorporate into a daily wellness routine. One of my favorite discoveries in recent years? Red Light Therapy (RLT) — a non-invasive treatment that’s making waves in beauty and health circles for good reason. This treatment uses low-wavelength red light to penetrate the skin at a cellular level — think of it as a beauty + recovery ritual all in one…I highly recommend it!

What Is Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy uses low-wavelength red light to penetrate the skin at a cellular level. It’s completely painless and stimulates mitochondria (the powerhouse of our cells), helping them produce more energy. This, in turn, promotes healing, reduces inflammation, and enhances cellular regeneration.

Top Benefits of Red Light Therapy
1. Glowing, Youthful Skin
Red light therapy boosts collagen and elastin production, which helps reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging. It’s a natural way to improve skin tone and texture — no needles, no downtime.
2. Reduced Inflammation and Joint Pain
Whether you’re managing chronic inflammation or simply feeling sore from a workout, red light can help. It’s been shown to relieve joint pain and stiffness — something many of us become more aware of after 50.
3. Muscle Recovery and Performance
Athletes and fitness lovers swear by red light therapy to speed up recovery. It increases blood flow and reduces oxidative stress, which means quicker healing post-exercise.
4. Improved Sleep and Mood
Red light can help regulate circadian rhythms, enhancing melatonin production for deeper, more restorative sleep. It’s also known to support serotonin levels — a natural mood booster.
5. Hair Growth
Yes, really! Some people use red light therapy to stimulate hair follicles and promote healthier, fuller hair. This can be especially helpful during hormonal shifts.
6. Wound Healing and Scar Reduction
RLT can accelerate the healing of wounds, acne scars, and even surgical incisions. It’s a gentle way to support the skin’s natural repair process.

How I Use It
I incorporate red light therapy into my weekly routine — either at home with a portable device or at my new wellness club, Monarch Athletic Club. Just 10–20 minutes per session can make a difference. I love stacking it with mindfulness, listening to a podcast, or post-workout recovery. I used this one by Tri-Lite to help me with my tennis elbow! It’s also a great thing to do with your bestie after a workout.
Is It Safe?
Yes. It’s FDA-approved for certain uses, and unlike tanning beds or other high-heat treatments, it doesn’t damage the skin or expose you to harmful UV rays. Consistency is key — benefits build over time.
Red light therapy is one of those small, consistent practices that can yield big results. Whether you're looking to enhance your skin, support your body's recovery, or simply add a radiant ritual to your wellness routine, it’s worth exploring!
