Holistic Nutritionist Elissa Goodman's Travel Essentials

As part of my guest blog series following the International Women’s Day post, I’m excited to add my inspirational friend Elissa Goodman, Holistic Nutritionist & Lifestyle Cleanse Expert. We can all look to Elissa to show us how to do the impossible: balance traveling and health. Here are Elissa’s tips and tricks for when you are on the move!

  • Pre-packed snacks - bringing these eliminates the uncertainty of eating an overpriced snack that probably won’t contain any nutritional ingredients.

  • Stay hydrated - we often forget about the power of hydration on and off the plane. It is so important for our skin and energy levels to take in more water especially when you’re in the air.

  • Eat more before - digestion takes more energy while flying, so eating more on the ground is a great way to sustain you throughout the flight rather than eating mid-trip.

  • Supplements - travelling light is the key, so instead of carrying six different types of vitamins, Elissa recommends taking a multivitamin.

  • Ground yourself - travelling can be notoriously stressful and hectic, bring items that are grounding such as a few small crystals or stones reminding you to stay calm and charge you with peaceful and positive energy.

Inside the Movement Medicine Event with Lauren Roxburgh

Last week I was honored to host a ‘Movement Medicine’ private event with goop’s Body Whisper, body alignment expert and best-selling author Lauren Roxburgh. Lauren came to my home in Bel Air, Los Angeles where she shared her knowledge with 30 of my Glow Girl friends on the importance of rolling out your fascia, body alignment and the mind-body connection. Following a short educational talk, we all had the opportunity to experience one of Lauren’s intro to foam rolling classes! Lauren is a gifted educator and teacher who has transformed the lives and bodies of Hollywood’s A-listers with her overall holistic approach to wellness! A portion of the proceeds from the event was donated to the Hirshberg Foundation, a charity that is close to my heart. Read on for more details on this magical day!

Starting with an introduction from Corc Yoga about the benefits of practicing on a cork mat, to an educational talk from Lauren and straight into the hands-on 45-minute foam rolling class, we were reminded of the importance of maintaining our body in all aspects of life.

Named the “Body Alignment Pro” by Vogue, Lauren discovered the power of ‘fascia’, or structural integration, which is a healing system that focuses on the way the human body deals with gravity and stress by focusing on the alignment of the body. When we are busy or stressed, the fascia stores toxins that negatively impact our health (such as acute back pain, anxiety, and poor posture).

My friends and I were so excited to learn about the benefits of foam rolling fascia and how it can help with flushing out toxins, connective-tissue muscle disorders, and inflammation. Other perks of foam rolling include elongation of muscles, and a deep release of tension. Yes please!

Meet "The Body Whisperer" Lauren Roxburgh

As part of my guest blog series following the International Women’s Day post, I am thrilled to start my conversation series with Lauren Roxburgh, an incredibly knowledgable and inspiring expert on all things fascia, the mind-body connection and movement medicine. Lauren’s effective body foam rolling techniques have made her a leader in the latest trends in health and fitness. She regularly works with A list celebrities and was coined The Body Whisperer by goop! An oracle of information, I encourage you to read on to learn about some of Lauren’s wellness tips and tricks, and why the foam roller is her ‘secret weapon’.

A foam roller is a light, cylinder style foam tube that is used to slowly roll over various parts of the body, essentially giving the body a full, deep massage. Foam rolling can be used to increase flexibility, reduce soreness, break up scar tissue, and speed up the body’s workout recovery process. It also improves circulation, boosts lymphatic drainage and reduces inflammation. I personally use a foam roller daily - it’s a great thing to do before a workout or massaging tired sore muscles in the evening.
